Online Community Guidelines

Welcome to Bloom!

We are a community where families can find support, educational services, activities and friends. We have an Online Community where parents and professionals can network, educate each other and share resources.

At Bloom, our mission is to:

  • Provide a nurturing, inspiring, and non-judgmental atmosphere.
  • Bring about positive social change by connecting families with each other and the businesses who serve them.
  • Inform parents about birthing and parenting practices that may fall outside the mainstream but have been shown to support optimal human development.
  • Support families in having their needs met physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Our online community

We started out as a single Facebook group and have grown into 4 groups. Read over each description and decide where you would like to be involved.

Bloom Parents – this is our original and largest Facebook group. This is a support forum for all families but conversations tend to focus on the pregnancy / newborn and toddler period of parenthood.

  • Parenting related conversations for all parents, with a focus on younger kids.
  • Conversations focused on seeking information or support.
  • Community and non-profit event postings that are relevant to parenting. No self promotion allowed.
  • No advertising or selling.

Bloom Big Kids – this group grew out of the need to carve out space to talk about issues related to kids school age or older.

  • Similar to Bloom Parents with a focus on kids in elementary school or older (ages 5+).
  • Conversations focused on seeking information or support.
  • Community and non-profit event postings that are relevant to parenting. No self promotion allowed.
  • No advertising or selling.

Bloom Chit Chat – this group is for sharing articles, requesting referrals and other non-parenting conversations. This is an affiliate group of Bloom Parent Community and only current members of Bloom parents or Bloom big kids will be added to this group.

Bloom Classifieds – have something to buy sell or trade? We have an active classifieds page where we can support or local businesses and trade parenting supplies among each other. This is an affiliate group of Bloom Parent Community and only current members of Bloom parents or Bloom big kids will be added to this group.

Sisters Circle – This affiliate group is the work of the Athens Black Mothers Breastfeeding project and their online breastfeeding community. Sisters Circle is a Facebook group of mothers breastfeeding and caring for their families, supported by a diverse network of friends, families, neighborhoods and professionals who are familiar both, culturally and racially.

Interacting with our online community:

** Check the sticky within each group for specific guidelines, group etiquette, and moderator contact info. **

Please introduce yourself. Feel free to look around and listen before posting. We’d like to know who you are and encourage you to take a minute and introduce yourself if you are new to our community.

We are a community and this Facebook group is our neighborhood. Everyone here is a real person who lives in our town. Be thoughtful, online or offline.

Keep it Kind. We believe that sharing your observations and opinions about a particular subject is appropriate. We can all do this in a way that is civil and promotes the overall feeling of safety, comfort, and support we value at Bloom.

Support does not always mean agreement. Sometimes to support someone in the best way we can, we will need to share our own personal experiences and points of view. The intention is to support each other and we will always do this in a caring and respectful way, even if we don’t agree.

We all make mistakes. It takes time to learn the rules of engagement in an online community. Ask questions. Be understanding of each other and yourself.

We have a no drama comment policy.

While we fully support members having different opinions and perspectives, anything less than complete civility is unacceptable. Our comments are moderated carefully. We will delete comments and conversations that are:

  • Rude
  • Shaming
  • Judgmental
  • Ranty
  • Attacking
  • Snarky
  • Bullying

Removing comments that dehumanize or mock other people is not censorship, it is kindness. If you see comments that we may have missed please report to a moderator. We work hard to maintain a comfortable space for support, encouragement and connection.

** We have a zero tolerance policy for these behaviors. Members who violate our comment policy will be removed. **

We appreciate you taking the time to read through our Community Guidelines. We hope that you will find a home here and we look forward to getting to know you. To be added to our group(s), please fill out this form:
